Electric blinds offer many benefits to your home – at the touch of a button you can open or close your blinds with ease and ultimate control. But which controls you decide to use can affect the way you use your blinds considerably. Do you want programmable controls to preset your blinds to open or close on a timer when you’re not even in the house? Or are you happy with a simple wall switch that is easy to use and will never get mislaid? Our customers often ask us what the different options are for controlling their new electric blinds, so here is a quick overview of all of our electric blind remote controls, switches and home automation systems so you can make an informed choice about which option is best for your home and lifestyle.

Remote Controls

The traditional handheld remote control is still a popular choice amongst some of our customers. With three different remote control models available to choose from, you can operate your electric blinds in exactly the way you want at the touch of a button. The Telis 4 and Telis 16 allow you to control your electric blinds from within 20 metres (approximately 22 yards) of the window. They also have a “MY” pre programmable function so you can preset your blinds to automatically open or close at a time that suits you, even if you’re away from the house. The Telis 1 and Telis 4 come in a range of colours and all remotes come with a neat wall mount so you’ll never loose them down the back of the sofa!

Wall Switch

Electric Blinds Wireless Wall Switch - The Electric Blind Company

Somfy’s Smoove 1 RTS wireless battery operated wall switch is a simple, static way to control your electric blinds. Fixed to the wall close to the electric blinds themselves, the Smoove switch is stylish in design and compact so it won’t look out of place in any modern home. You can also choose from a variety of frame colours to ensure the switch blends in with your interior design scheme. Operating your electric blinds with this touch sensitive design is simple and the discreet audio and light indicators provide positive feedback for every change you make to your settings.

Home Automation System

If you want a completely automated smart home system, your electric blinds can be operated from a central hub that controls your entire household. Once the system has been set up you’ll be able to operate your blinds, as well as other smart appliances, from your computer, smartphone or tablet, wherever you are and at any time during the day or night. So if you go on holiday and forget to close the blinds there’s no worry; simply log into the app and close the blinds remotely. You can then set up an automatic programme so that the blinds open in the morning and close at night until you return from your vacation.

The automation systems that we work with include Control4, Crestron, Savant, Elan, RTI, Vantage, URC and many more. If you have a smart home system that isn’t listed here, please get in touch to discuss as we are able to work with most home automation systems on the market.

Manual Control

Although not the general idea of electric blinds, some of our products can also be operated manually if you don’t have a remote control, wall switch or smartphone to hand. Simply gently pull the bottom of the blind to activate the electric motor and it will open or close accordingly.
