Imagine being able to control your electric blinds just by using your voice – well now you can! Our Somfy electric blinds can be connected to an Alexa enabled device via a Somfy TaHoma hub, giving you hands-free control of your blinds. Furthermore, if you have other Somfy applications in your home, such as light and heating systems, you can control those in unison with your electric blinds via simple voice commands. Here we give you a quick overview of how Somfy blinds can be controlled using Alexa. 

About Somfy TaHoma

The easiest way to set up your Somfy electric blinds with Alexa is by using the Somfy TaHoma hub. Somfy TaHoma is a smart hub that is connected to your wifi network and allows you to control all compatible devices within your home, including your electric blinds.

Scenarios

Somfy TaHoma allows you to set up ‘Scenarios’ which control groups of blinds. For example, you might set up a Scene called ‘Going Out’ which closes all of the blinds and turns off the lights in the house. You can also set up scenarios for days of the week if you want your blinds closed at different times at the weekend than during the working week. Furthermore, if you have compatible sensors for sunlight and temperature, you can set your blinds to close when a particular room gets too hot, or you require more shade.

Remote Access

The Somfy TaHoma hub is accessed from your smartphone or tablet using the TaHoma app. Simply log in to see the status of all of your smart home devices and their various pre-set ‘Scenes’. From here, you can edit the settings as required, or control your blinds in real-time. This is especially useful if you had forgotten to close your blinds or turn off the lights before you left the house – simply log on and control everything on your way to work!

Using Somfy TaHoma with Alexa

Once your electric blinds are set up via the Somfy TaHoma hub and your scenarios are programmed in, we connect your Amazon Alexa device to the system. We first add the blinds via the Alexa app under ‘Devices’ and enable it via the ‘Skills’ menu. Once we have logged into your Somfy account and connected the two systems, the ‘Scenes’ that you set up in the Somfy TaHoma app will appear, and you will be able to turn them on or off just by asking Alexa. For example, ‘Alexa, turn on Going Out.’

Ultimate Convenience

Once your Somfy TaHoma hub and Alexa device have been connected, you’ll be able to control your blinds without even having to pick up your phone. Simply say ‘Alexa’ to wake up your device and then say a command. This could be ‘Alex, open kitchen blinds.’  Or perhaps you could say ‘Alexa, turn on Goodnight’ to activate an evening setting that closes all of the blinds and turns off all of the lights in the house.
