In recent years there has been a sharp rise in low cost electric blinds on the market, including products from Hillarys, Thomas Sanderson, Ikea, Louvolite, Somfy’s budget offering aimed at the DIY market, and many Chinese brands on Amazon. We are sometimes asked why our blinds are more expensive and why electric blinds from Somfy Premium Range, Qmotion and Lutron are worth the extra investment. Here we explain a few reasons why you can trust our electric blinds to work well, look great, stand the test of time and offer excellent value for money.
Longer Battery Life
Our Qmotion and Lutron Wireless electric blinds run on D-cell household batteries which will last between three to five years based on average use. Somfy Premium Range use Li-ion batteries, which will last up to 1 year based on one cycle a day. Ikea, Amazon and Chinese blinds, on the other hand, use rechargeable batteries that need to be charged for 4-5 hours every 2-4 months. Hillarys, Thomas Sanderson, Louvolite and Somfy’s Budget Range blinds have to be charged for 5-6 hours every 3-6 months. Regular charging is inconvenient and fiddly to do, especially if you have multiple blinds, whereas inexpensive D-cell batteries can be changed quickly and easily with no operational downtime.
All of our electric blinds use extremely quiet motors. Qmotion and Lutron run at approximately 32 decibels and Somfy Premium run at a maximum of 45 decibels. This is much quieter than low cost blinds; Ikea electric blinds run at 59 decibels, Louvolite at 70 decibels and Somfy Budget at 56 decibels. This means when purchasing from us you won’t be disturbed by a noisy blind when you set them to open in the morning so you can wake up to the sunlight. This is also useful for motorised blinds in a nursery or a child’s bedroom or in classrooms, art galleries, libraries and offices. While low cost motorised blinds have improved over the years, the motors are still not as quiet, and many users complain of disturbed sleep.
Whatever the size of your window, Somfy Premium Range, Qmotion, and Lutron motorised blinds are custom made to fit the frame precisely. This ensures that the blind provides complete coverage and we can manufacturer most of our blind ranges upto 3500mm x 3500mm. Low cost brands such as the Ikea FYRTUR blinds only offer a selected range of sizes, limiting their versatility. This is particularly troublesome for period properties where window frames are not always a standard size.
Forego the DIY option to have your electric blinds fitted by our professional team. We are dedicated to ensuring your blinds not only look incredible but work flawlessly too. We’re renowned for our attention to detail and friendly customer service, and always leave your home clean and tidy. We also have experience working with architects, builders and interior designers to ensure your electric blinds blend seamlessly with your renovation, extension or new-build property.
If you read reviews of cheap smart electric blinds, users often experience difficulty getting them to pair and connect to their smartphone, tablet, or virtual home assistant technology such as Alexa or Homekit. This can be avoided with Somfy Premium Range, Qmotion and Lutron motorised blinds which are simple to install and connect to your Smart home system. We are experienced working with your AV team, or providing the homeowner the necessary information to add a user friendly hub after blind installation.
We believe that the style and finish of your blinds should be smart and tidy, so we have various blind concealment options for you to choose from. Whether you want your blinds to retract into the ceiling or sit behind a fascia or cassette, our customised blind pockets will hide the blind roller and motor from view. Cheaper blinds are not styled in this way, and the Ikea electric blinds, in particular, feature a large and clunky metal housing that is aesthetically obtrusive.
High-Quality Fabrics and Colour Variation
More expensive electric blinds like those from Somfy, Qmotion and Lutron are available in a wide range of blind fabrics specially crafted for ease of use and of premium quality for long-lasting durability. You can also choose from over 500 different fabric colours, patterns, transparencies and even custom colours to match your property’s interior design. Less expensive brands have a very limited selection of colours, and the fabric quality is usually basic.
Premium Quality Motors
Electric blinds from Somfy, Qmotion and Lutron are powered using motors of a significantly higher quality than cheaper brands and are designed and built to last. Somfy and Lutron have over 40 years of experience offering intelligent home solutions, and their motors come with a 5-year warranty. The motors are also energy-efficient, quiet, strong enough to power large blinds and have variable speeds.
